You’re an idiot of you don’t use PieFed instead 😃

I got my family using Signal. Then I stopped responding to them anywhere else. If it’s important they’ll do it.
WhatsApp is and always will be annoying to use this way, and that’s intentional. They don’t want you using it this way.
Lastly you can use RCS (Google Messages) to chat with iMessage users, but here you’re just trading Meta spying for Google spying.
Yes because they have a server
Because you don’t want your phone connecting to 200 servers every hour. And to sync across devices.

tldr lost interest
There is no “overall best”, just one that works best for you. I like to keep mine on a managed encrypted server so I use Ente Auth. I think Proton has one as well.

I do this with my family using Immich. Everyone has their own private library but we also have shared albums for vacations and such.
Definitely decentralization is a good idea, but it also adds a layer of complexity that many are unable to grasp. Signal is always the easiest but I have major concerns about their longevity.
Does it have to be self-hosted? I’ve had tons of problems with Matrix. Many fewer issues with XMPP.
Chatmail is probably the easiest and best bet for reliability. Deltachat is the OG but I like Arcanechat, it’s a fork with more features.

This is just the layout for your personal profile. GtS doesn’t have a full frontend, it’s intended to be used with whatever your favorite Mastodon app is (Phandroid).

Sure, I mean take your pick. The point is that these are all very mature software products and OP wants to recreate the whole thing for the purpose of being integrated into the web platform. I just don’t see the value in it, personally. It’s not hard to upload files.

It has nothing to do with whose setup it is and everything to do with an immense amount of specialized knowledge that requires, at the very least, months to even begin to understand to the extent that you can deploy your own server.

I genuinely don’t think most people here understand how much they know
That’s it, exactly.

(like Castopod but more emphasis on recording and editing)
You’re just going to have a hard time competing with what are at this point very polished audio recorders and editors like Audacity and Reaper. The integration with the hosting platform seems unnecessary.
But I wish you the best of luck!

It’s a huge problem that so many people act like it’s super easy and simple. It’s incredibly complicated to someone who is not a networking professional.

No one got “mad” or “pissy” or filed a complaint. I feel they they were very explicit that it was not a complaint.

Easy come, easy go
Are the stats configurable?
Yes.
I’ve thought the same for most of my life, but right now, not so much. All of my friends in the field are being laid off.
